As the title suggests, I'm using WB6 and Vista.

How do I shut off the the changing user icon when I mouse over different things (documents, computer, etc.) on the start menu?

How do I shut off the start menu static user icon?

How do I get Vista to stop asking me if I want to run Theme Manager when I click on it to run it? Security settings appear to be the same as Freecell...but only in appearance

How can I add access to WB6 to the normal right-click menu? HP and nVidia have stuff on it, I'd like to add something useful to the menu! And if you can tell me how to get rid of useless stuff on the menu, you get a cookie!

This is just a suggestion, but when you right-click on a skin in WindowBlinds Configuration, there should be an option to filter that single skin. I haven't tried this yet, but as a work around, I think if I make a category called "Eeeww" and set "Eeeww" to be filtered out, I'll be able to singularly filter out skins by right-clicking on them and putting them in that category! A lot of work when a simple right-click filter skin would do the trick

That's all I gots for now!

Essencay

First off.......Hullo

I have a myriad of questions, so I figured I'd just make a general post rather than a myriad of posts...

Who's around that I know or perhaps might have a foggy recollection of who I am? I've been out of this scene for a couple of years, mainly out of focus in the real world. Currently I'm working on my third divorce and I must say I'm getting pretty good at it. It's the being married thing I fail miserably at.

Where's a good starting point, to get started up again with desktop customisation? Obviously I need to get up to date with Object Desktop. Purely speculation, but I'm thinking that a 2-year old version of it isn't going to work as well as the latest and greatest on WinVista. Where to go, what to read...that sort of thing.

LCD monitors make my brain hurt and my eyes go fuzzy. I finally made the leap to LCD and got a 22" widescreen. How in the hell do you get everything to look right? I've messed around with the monitor's settings forever. Things are either too bright, too washed out looking, fonts rarily looking as good as on a CRT. It helped some to drop the resolution from the recommended setting of 1680x1050 to 1440x900, but I still cannot get everything "just right".

Anyway that's it for now, I'm out of coffee and got to get ready for work.

Cheers,
Essencay

Hiya folks

Trying to upload a photo to my photo album. When I click on the Photo Mangement link http://essencay.wincustomize.com/photos.aspx?cmd=edit I get the following error page

An Error Occurred
There was a problem opening this page. Please refresh the page and try again.
Whatever you were trying to do, it didn't work out the way you expected.
You could always return to the Home Page.

I tried refreshing and still no love. Haven't been here in a while, so I don't know if this is a known issue and I didn't see a post in this forum about this. Any help much appreciated. Cheers

I just sent an email to the both of you. Someone with a WC account is trying to cross-reference it to my Stardock purchase account. I forwarded a copy of the email that the automated Stardock thing sent to me. If either of you all isn't here, someone let me know so that I can forward this to an admin that is here. I'm a little concerned that someone may be trying to get access to my registration numbers for the products I've bought. Thanks :)

First off everything I know about networks you could fit in this ->.<- small dot

I have never set up a network before and I've gotten pretty far but I am stuck. I am trying to connect a Roku SoundBridge 500 http://www.rokulabs.com/products/soundbridge/index.php to my PC so that I can play my Digital Media over my home stereo. I have an Actiontek 54Mbps Wireless DSL Gateway with 4-port Router http://www.actiontec.com/products/broadband/54mbps_wireless_gateway_4p/index.php My PC is connected to the router through Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet which is onboard my mainboard. My SB500 is connected through a wireless connection 802.11b/g Mixed Mode and SSID Broadcast is diabled. The router I configured with directions from my ISP using its HTML based menu. I can connect to the internet with my PC and I can play internet radio and udpate software on my SB500. SB500 requires a music server and I am using Windows Media Connect. WMC recognises the SB500 and I've identified which folders to share. My Network Places folder shows both the shared folders on my PC and the SB500. XP's firewall is disabled. In Nortons Internet Security I've place my home network in its trusted zone. So it seems that all the equipment is recognising each other, except that the SB500 doesn't see the music library. I've probably forgot to do some basic network thing, but like I've got no clue

Thanks for any and all help

I just started playing this. It's the first online community game I've ever played before and it's pretty fun, though I keep getting my butt kicked. Anyway if anyone else here is playing it what realm are you in? I'm in Uther and I'm a Human Warrior named Essencay.

How do I keep Iconpackager from using the same iconpackage for one profile in XP that has been applied under another user profile? I have two users set up on my PC, one is my main desktop, fully decked out and the other is for gaming, using the classic windows GUI. I want to keep the default XP icons on my gaming desktop and not see the other. Thanks

Used to be when you downloaded a WB skin from the WB library, you got just what you expected....a *wba file and nothing more and the skin would auto-install, unless you set the *wba extension not to in Windows file properties. Now folks are uploading *zip files that include additional files, for many reasons, and I'm sure mostly for completing the user's WB experience with that particular skin. It all can be avoided though and the library can get back to just having *wba files again if folks just do a couple of things....

Fonts - SKS (SkinStudio) allows for the inclusion of fonts in a skin and also installs them for the user so there is no need to add them separately in a zip.

Wallpaper - If the wallpaper is a *bmp, SKS allows for it to be included and applied within the *wba file. Otherwise I think best practice would be to make it a separate download and provide a link to it in your description or better yet, if the wall won't pass moderation, build a winstyle theme with the skin and the wall.

Other Stuff - DX widgets or whatever else have a separate library here and again just provide a link to it in your description.

Winstyle Themes - If you really want to include a whole bunch of stuff with a WB skin, build a separate Winstyle Theme. That way folks have a choice. They can either get just the WB skin or they can get the theme with all the extras (wallpaper, widgets or whatever else) and you get more downloads that way.

That's just my 2-cents and getting the WB library back to just *wba's also makes it easier for new users to customize.

I don't know if this is a bug or what. I have the Silica Stock Ticker Gadget running on my desktop and it shows up in the Widget Manager, which is accessed by right-clicking on the DX Widget icon in the systray. The bug or what is when I highlight the stock ticker in the loaded widgets window and click on configure, nothing happens. Also when click on show all, minimize all or hide all, nothing happens. When I click on unload all, it is unloaded.

I have noted two problems with the silica stock ticker gadget. First when I restart it, it saved my stock symbols, but it doesn't save its desktop position. Second everytime it is re-started, I have to re-allow it net access through Nortons. I don't have this problem with the other netcentric DX stuff I run and Nortons.

I'm running the latest version of everything that ODNT offers on WinXP Home with SP2
